There's nothing more frustrating with computers in general whether it be purchasing, fixing, networking or having a web site built for your business than trying to find someone you can trust to provide the right solution at a fair price.

I'm sure that by now we've all learned that you get what you pay for - but we also know that there are still those out there willing to charge you for quality and provide anything but. I come across examples of this daily.

This example still fires me up when I thing about it:

It was when I began maintaining the computers in a local office for a non-profit cancer support center in Saskatoon . It was a simple diagnosis as it turned out to be that their hard drive was failing and required replacing. Now the point is that this center had commissioned someone to build them a quality white box (custom built) office computer.

They had a flimsy budget windowed gaming case with unreliable power supply and a single low volume lighted fan, he used an AsRock motherboard, AMD Athlon XP CPU a 40GB Maxtor (slim) Hard Drive, 256MB AZEN Ram and no License for the Windows XP Pro installed with no service packs or updates done. Translation they were ripped off on a system that was not being bid on, they were not price shopping they simply asked an "Expert" for his expertise and paid him what he asked. Remember this was a non-profit cancer support center, that's low but it happens all too frequently.

Now for those who don't know why I stated the particular brands of components I will explain: at the time of the sale of this system it was already well known in our industry that Maxtor drives were failing within a year like clock work (which it did), Azen is the cheap crap RAM that has poor performance and a high failure rate, As-Rock motherboards are famous for failing chipsets and expanding capacitors (which did happen) in hot environments with a CPU (Athlon XP) that at the time was an infamously hot line of processors. And then putting an illegal bootleg of Windows XP Professional is just ignorant (software they were billed for) I felt bad having to insist that they buy a legitimate copy when I replaced their hard drive.

Truly if I feel that I or one of my subcontractors cannot deliver the professional results that I would demand for myself I will refer you to the person or company that I would personally turn to perform that very task for myself even if he is direct competition to my business.
